Dorothy Stauckas

Litchfield- Dorothy “Dottie” C. Stauckas, 72, passed away on Thursday, March 1st, 2012. Born in Queens, New York, April 15, 1939, Dottie lived and raised her family in Litchfield. Although born a city girl, Dottie, learned to embrace her life in Litchfield, raising her large loving family, John Heuckeroth Jr of Florida, David Heuckeroth of Thomaston, Barbara and Deborah Heuckeroth of Litchfield, Ginger Balch of Torrington, and her recently deceased son Gary Heuckeroth of Vermont, on their small farm on Route 254. Dottie, a tireless hard worker, loved to challenge herself by learning how to do new things such as making butter, canning, and gardening. There were few jobs that she wouldn’t tackle. Dottie loved to do all types of handicrafts and worked at home as a seamstress. After being bitten by the cooking bug, Dottie became a self taught cook, and embarked on a catering career, catering cocktail parties and dinners in Litchfield for many years. As time passed, Dottie’s compassionate nature turned to the elderly in Litchfield, with whom she spent many years working as a private caregiver. Dottie will always be remembered for her loving and generous spirit. Dottie is survived by her husband, Joseph Stauckas, her brother, Richard Urso, and sister, Jeanette Scanlon of Torrington. She also leaves a nephew, Drew, nieces, Jamie, Kathleen, Betherine, and Rena as well as grandchildren, David Jr., Adriane, Olivia, Jonathan, Danny, Jessica, Dakotah, Angela, and a great grandson, Cadec. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Dottie’s life, at a reception, Sunday, March 11, at the Northfield Fire Dept, from 3 - 6 pm. Memorial contributions maybe be sent to American Heart Association Go Red for Women, P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA 02241-7005 or online at www.goredforwomen.org
