William O'Brien Obituary

William S. O’Brien III, “Billy,” born October 25, 1951, passed away peacefully Saturday, Oct. 14, surrounded by family. He is survived by his sister Pat O’Brien Giammatteo and husband Joe Giammatteo; a nephew Sean O’Brien Klimczak; of Meriden. Also a brother Dave O’Brien of Marlborough; two nieces Heather Torpey of Manchester, and Jennifer O’Brien of Chicago. As well as one great nephew Jack Torpey. He is predeceased by his parents William S. O’Brien Jr. and Lori Pitteway O’Brien of Meriden. Billy grew up in Meriden and attended Saint Rose and was a graduate of Francis T. Maloney High School in 1971. He then went on to work for the family owned and operated Pleasant View Golf Course. He also worked for CN Flagg Construction and Universal Metal Works. Billy was an avid bird dog field trailer. He was very passionate about the sport. He competed with his dogs in New England, in the South and along the East Coast. Billy served as President of the Associated Field Trial Clubs of New England, and President of Region 1 Amateur Field Trial Club. He was Chairman of the Northeastern Shooting Dog Championship. He also enjoyed judging all breed Championships. He judged for the New England Open Championship, the oldest bird dog Championship in the United States. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service to be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 East Main Street, Meriden. Burial will be private.
