Alfred Samuel Phillips, Jr., age 89, of Milford passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 in Connecticut Hospice in Branford. He was born on September 13, 1918 in Stamford to the late Alfred S. and Edith Evans Phillips. He proudly served in the US Marines during WWII. Before retiring, he was employed by Carpenter Technology in Bridgeport as a draftsman. An active member of the community, he was a member of Ansantawae Lodge #89 A.F. & A.M., the Order of DeMolay and the Milford Senior Center. He also was a choir singer and member of the Mary Taylor Methodist Church. Mr. Phillips is survived by his loving wife Nettie R. Rosenbaum Phillips, children James Phillips of Clinton, Nancy L. Dapp of Meriden, Catherine M. Daniels of Lynchburg, VA and Helen F. Peterson of Front Royal, VA, 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Besides he parents, he is predeceased by his first wife Helen D”Amico Phillips, brothers Richard and William Phillips and sisters Harriet, Ruth and Edith. A memorial service will be held on Saturday May 31, 2008 at the Mary Taylor Methodist Church at 10:00 am. Interment will follow in Kings Highway Cemetery. Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 Broad St., Milford is handling the arrangements. Donations may be made in his name to the Salvation Army, P. O. Box 1604, New Haven, CT 06506.
