Anita Benard
Anita C. Benard, age 66, of Milford, CT, passed away on March 6, 2009 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford after a long illness. She was born on August 28, 1942 in Karlsham, Sweden to the late Tage and Gerdah Mattsson. Mrs. Benard, wife of the late Jack D. Benard, was a retail sales associate for Lord & Taylor and previously worked at Harpers of Fairfield. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart University with an Associate’s Degree, a devoted member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Bridgeport, a member and recording secretary for the Scandinavian Club of Fairfield over twenty years , where she sang with the Northern Lights Swedish Singers. She was also a member of the Three Crown Lodge # 38 VASA Order of America. She pursued her artistic talents as a hobby and loved working in her garden. She is survived by her step-daughter Susan Welk and her husband Douglas of South Carolina, several cousins a niece and loving friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she is predeceased by a brother Stig B. Mattsson. Friends may pay their respects Wednesday March 11, 2009 from 5:00 ~ 7:00 pm at the Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 N. Broad St. Milford. A memorial service will also be held, Thursday March 12, 2009 at 10:30 am directly in the Salem Lutheran Church 3160 Park Ave. Bridgeport, CT. Interment will be private.
