Arthur Joy Obituary

Arthur “Bill” W. Joy, age 86, a lifelong Milford resident, passed away in his home on Sunday, April 5, 2009. He was born on April 28, 1922 to the late Walter C. and Isabelle Hoxley Joy. He proudly served in the US Army Air Corp as a pilot during WWII. Before retiring, he was employed by Sikorsky Aircraft as an electrical engineer. An active member of the community, he was a former member and volunteer for the Milford Fire Dept., a volunteer at Milford Hospital, a member of American Legion Post #196, VFW Post #7788, and St. Mary’s Holy Name Society and a leader of St. Mary’s Cub Scouts, where he received several awards. Along with working the poles for the Democratic Party and role played the part of Ben Franklin for the DAR for several years. He will also be remembered as being an original board member and instrumental in saving Ryder’s Park. Besides being a devoted husband, father and grandfather, he enjoyed golf, bingo and traveling. Mr. Joy is survived by his daughter Rebecca Joy-Buck and her husband Don of Milford, son Paul Joy and wife Libby of Stratford, grandchildren Jennifer, Amanda, Emily, Austin, Alden and Bryn, great grandchildren Abbie, Robbie and Andrew and numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his wife Ann Gagnon Joy. Calling hours are Wednesday, April 8, 2009 from 4 to 8pm at the Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 Broad St., Milford. A Prayer Service will be held on Thursday, April 9 at 10:30am directly in St. Mary’s Church, Gulf St., Milford. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery with full military honors.
