Barbara Collins Santa, age 89, longtime resident of Milford, passed away on Monday, January 25, 2016. Barbara was born in Louisville, KY to the late Clarence Collins and Ruby Howard Collins of Virginia on February 3, 1926. Shortly after graduating high school, she met the love of her life, Paul Santa, while he was stationed in Newport News, VA during WWII. Paul was a member of the Army band and Barbara worked as a clerk for the government. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Barbara always made family her priority. She was a loving and caring person to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She loved to dance – especially the jitterbug - and was a wonderful cook who made people feel welcome with her southern hospitality. She will be remembered for her big heart and infectious smile but mostly for always thinking of others before herself. She enjoyed dining out and her card club with friends. Barbara is survived by her husband Paul, son David Santa and his wife Patricia, son Bob and wife Marie Santa of Columbia, CT; and daughter Judy and husband Chris Beatrice of Sonoma, CA, as well as her grandchildren Kara Santa, Jennifer and husband Mike Jaffe of Bolton, CT, and Collin Beatrice; her great-grandchildren Mark and Danielle Jaffe, as well as her close friends in Virginia and family members in Pittsburgh, PA. Barbara is predeceased by her son, Paul Michael Santa. Calling hours will take place on Monday, March 21, 2016 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home, 135 Broad Street, Milford, CT 06460. A service will be held at 12:30, during the visitation. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 425 Buckingham Avenue, Milford, CT.
