Charles Daniel Correll, Jr, age 84, of Orange, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, October 23, 2008. He was born on June 22, 1924 to the late Charles D. and Florence Ritter Correll, Sr. in Long Branch, NJ. He joined the Navy Reserves in 1942. He graduated from Cornell University in 1944 with a Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as an Ensign in the US Navy and served in a PT squadron during WWII in Panama. Released from Active Duty in July on 1946 and was placed on inactive reserve status until his Honorable Discharge in 1955. From 1946 to 1951, he was employed by Chance Vaught Aircraft Division of United Aircraft in Stratford and Dallas-Fort Worth Texas. In 1951, he went to work for Norden Instruments, a new division of United Aircraft in Milford. In 1966, he was promoted to manager for the multi-mode radar system for the Lockheed C5 program. Leaving United Aircraft in 1970, he became an Engineering Manager for Hunt-Pierce Corp. in Milford. The function of Hunt-Pierce was the design and production of vehicle mounted aerial devices and associated equipment. In 1971, he formed Pierce-Correll Corp with Wayne M. Pierce, Jr and served as Vice President until Mr. Pierce’s death in 1985. Mr. Correll then became President and served in that capacity until he retired in 2002. An avid skier, sailor and equestrian, he was a member of the Windjammers Sailing Club and the Milford Yacht Club since 1954 where he served as Commodore in 1963. He raced 210 and Star Sailing Fleet. Mr. Correll is survived by his loving wife Robin Pierce Correll, devoted children Robert C. Correll, Daniel J. Correll, Charles D. Correll III, Elizabeth D. Sutton, Rebecca MG Sutton and Jonathan C P Sutton and grandchildren Cassidy and Lindsey Correll. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by a brother James Correll. Calling hours are Sunday, October 26, 2008 from 5 to 8 pm at the Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 Broad St., Milford. Interment will be private.
