Charles Taylor

Charles Richard Taylor, age 83, of Stratford for the last 50 years and formerly of Milford, passed away in his home on Saturday, July 26, 2008. He was born in Springfield, MA on March 9, 1925 to the late Richard and May Jones Taylor. He proudly served in the 3rd Marine division at Iwo Jima during WWII. Before retiring, he was an engineer for Textron. An active member of the community, he was a member of the State Trooper Auxiliary, Bridgeport Rifle Club, Housatonic Boat Club, Iwo Jima Survivors and a volunteer at West Haven Veteran’s Hospital. Mr. Taylor is survived by his loving wife, of 18 years, Helene Cowan Taylor, daughter Beverly Papp of Stratford, son Richard Taylor of Northern California, stepdaughter Gail Lyon Warner of Milford, stepsons Richard Lyon of Gregory, TX and David Lyon of Ansonia, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. A private interment will be held in Kennsico Cemetery in Valhalla, NY. Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 Broad St, Milford is handling the arrangements. Donations may be made in his name to the Connecticut Humane Soc., 788 Amity Rd, Bethany, CT 06524.
