Clara M. Barrey Smith Poole age 91, a life long Milford resident, passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 in Milford Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Lt. Colonel John (Jack) F. Poole. Mrs. Poole was born on August 5, 1918 in Blaine, Maine to the late Malcolm Thompson and Millicent Peters Belyea Barrey. Clara worked as a Registered Nurse at Bridgeport Hospital many years before her retirement and was a volunteer at the American Red Cross. She is also a member of the Wordsmith writing group at the Milford Senior Center. Mrs. Poole is survived by her loving son Hugh Smith of Milford, devoted step children, Kathi Poole Maisano of Ansonia, Richard Poole of Sandwich, MA, Steven Poole of Dumfries, VA., and Robert Poole of Alpharetta, GA, brothers Nathan M. (Dorothy) Barrey, Stephen B. (Ardis) Barrey and sister Ruth M. (Leonard) Pert, 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her first husband Dean Smith, two sons Dwight E. Smith and Barry D. Smith, sisters Erma E. Anderson and Diana M. Menendez. A Memorial Service will be held on January 9, 2010 at 10:00 am in the Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 N. Broad St., Milford. Friends may call prior to the service from 9:00 am. Interment will follow in Kings Highway Cemetery.
