Conrad Shedek

Conrad J. Shedek, age 95, passed away July 3, 2014, at the Veteran's Hospital in West Haven. Born June 24, 1919, in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, he grew up in Antioch, IL. He was the son of the late Frank and Anna (Lawrence) Shedek. He joined the Army during WWII and served two tours of duty in the Philippines. During his service, he had the distinction of being one of the last members of the horse cavalry, as well as being part of an armored tank division. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in electrical engineering, he became a supervisor, working on gas conversion along the east coast. He later became a commercial real estate broker and was Vice President and Treasurer of Investor's Mortgage Co. in Bridgeport. He was a member of the Greater Bridgeport Board of Realtors and National Assoc. of Realtors holding the designation of Certified Residential Broker. He was also a member of the American Institute of Real Estate Appraisers as well as a certified member of the National Farm and Land Bureau. He was a proud member of the Devon VFW 7788 Post #34. Conrad and his beloved wife Dorothy had two daughters, Ann Stevens and Ruth Shedek, both of Milford. Ruth is married to Steven Spafford of Milford. His grandchildren, in which he took great pride in are; Christina LeBlanc of Milford, Robert (Laurie) LeBlanc of Corinth, ME, Angel (Chris) Brogan of Dover-Foxcroft, ME and Jason (Dawn) Blake of Orange. Conrad leaves 9 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, as well as many nieces and nephews. Conrad is predeceased by his wife Dorothy, sisters Marie Wells, Lillian Meyers, Pauline Pullen, Rose Kaphengst, brothers Clarence and Leonard and step-son Robert Nelson. Calling hours will be held Saturday July 12, at the Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 N. Broad St. in Milford from 9 - 10:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church, 70 Gulf St in Milford at 11:00 a.m. Conrad will be laid to rest in St. George's Cemetery in Kenosha, WI with military honors.
