Daniel Howard

Daniel J. Howard, Jr., age 93, of Milford, beloved husband of the late Phyllis Viles Howard, passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2016 in the West Haven Veteran’s Hospital. He was born in Mexico, Maine to the late Daniel and Pearl Merrill Howard, Sr. He proudly served in the US Army Air Corps. during WWII as a technical sergeant and as a top turret gunner on a B-17. Before retiring, he was a self-employed carpenter specializing in remodeling homes and businesses. Mr. Howard is survived by his devoted children Cynthia Howard of Woodmont, Randall Howard of Maine, Cheryl and her husband Scott McCauley of Texas, stepson Arthur Daggett of Washington, grandchildren Kevin McCauley and his wife Laura and Megan Torres and her husband Jesus and great grandchildren Joaquin and Pablo Torres all of Texas. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his loving wife Phyllis Viles Howard. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of the West Haven Veteran’s Hospital and Home Care Plus for the wonder care they gave Dan. Calling hours are Wednesday, February 10, 2016 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at the Smith Funeral Home, 135 N Broad St., Milford. A prayer service will follow the visitation. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the West Haven Veteran’s Hospital, 950 Campbell Ave., West Haven, CT 06516.
