David Miller Obituary

David H. Miller, 78, a lifelong resident of Milford, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on January 31, 2009. He was the husband of Evelyn Mary Miller. Son of the late David and Rose Miller, he was born January 3, 1931, at Bridgeport, CT. Mr. Miller served honorably in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean conflict, was wounded in action and was awarded the Purple Heart, the UN Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal as well as the Korean Service Medal. His formal education included a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Before retiring in 1990, Mr. Miller was employed for 31 years at Perkin Elmer, Norwalk, CT. David was an intelligent, proud and sociable man. He was a progressive thinker always willing to lend a listening ear and offer sound councel. He had a strong work ethic and an inner resolve that allowed him to persevere even under any condition. During his retirement, Mr. Miller traveled extensively, enjoyed sailing, studying alternative energy sources, and spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Evelyn; his daughter Jeryl Horrocks, her husband Edward, and their three daughters, Amy, Tracy and Emily; his son David, his wife Kathy and their three children Jennifer, David and Matthew; and his son Thomas and his wife Elisa, all of Milford. He is also survived by his son Karl and his wife Pamela, of Orange. Besides his parents, Mr.Miller was predeceased by his brother Donald. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 4, 2009, Directly at Christ the Redeemer Roman Catholic Church, 325 Oronoque Road, Milford, CT. Interment with military honors will follow immediately after at Mount Saint Peters Cemetery, RT 34, Derby, CT. There will be no calling hours. The arrangements are in the care of The Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home 135 N. Broad St. Milford. The family would like to thank the wonderful compassionate group of caregivers from the Vitas Hospice organization as well as the VA staff. They made David’s last days so comfortable In lieu of flowers the family would prefer contributions to be made to Christ the Redeemer Roman Catholic Church or Vitas Hospice Care of Fairfield 777 Commerce Dr. Fairfield, CT 06825.
