Dorothy “Dot” Ann Franco, age 94, of Milford passed away peacefully in Rocky Hill on Wednesday, May 27, 2015. She was born on April 1, 1921 in the Bronx, NY to the late Leon and Catharine Norton Stoecklin. Before moving to Connecticut, Dot enjoyed the Cheltenham Women’s Club. She was employed at Union Carbide in the 1940’s before working as a model for a photography studio. Through this studio, she met her husband Jack on a plane while traveling for work. A devoted wife and mother, they had eight children. Before retiring, she was employed as a reservation receptionist at Milford Jai Alai for 25 years. Mrs. Franco is survived by her dedicated children Thomas Franco of Tuscaloosa, AL, Gary Franco and his wife Alberta of Lopez, WA, Lee (Joe) Franco and his wife Lisa of Cheshire, Linda Davis and her husband Bill of Santa Rosa, CA, Douglas Franco and his wife Nancy of Hamden, Deborah Smith and her husband Winthrop, Jr of Milford, Dorothy Franco-Reed and her husband Tom of Rocky Hill and John Franco of Milford, grandchildren Joseph Weiss, Lara Hammett, Natalie Weiss, Anthony Guzman, Lucas Franco, Michael Franco, Ryan Evans, Catharine Smith, Hannah Smith, Winthrop Smith III, Ty Reed, Kyley Reed, Jake Finelli and Jesse Finelli and great grandchildren Nicholas Weiss and Charlotte Weiss. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her husband John R. Franco and all her siblings: Tom, Leo and Louis Stoecklin and Marie Kerr. Calling hours are Tuesday, June 2, 2015 from 5pm to 7pm at the Smith Funeral Home, 135 Broad St., Milford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 3rd at 10:30am meeting directly in St. Mary’s Church, Gulf St., Milford. Interment will follow in Milford Cemetery. The family would like to thank her caretakers Gail Labadia and Juliana Hope for their outstanding support and attention to Dot. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Masonicare Partners, 111 Founders Plaza, Suite 200, East Hartford, CT 06108.
