Frederick Sears Obituary

Frederick Sewall Sears, age 82, passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2007 in Yale New Haven Hospital. He was the son of the late Frederick S. and Dorothy Staples Sears. He was born on June 24, 1924, in Marblehead, MA. Mr. Sears proudly served in the US Army Air Corp during WWII. A life long Milford resident, he had been employed as a welder at Sikorsky Aircraft and retired from Westport Development in Orange. An active member of the community, he was involved in the Milford Boy Scout Program for over 50 years, receiving the District Award of Merit in 1993, and receiving the Silver Beaver Award in 2005. He also was on the Camp Sequassen Maintenance Committee until his death. Mr. Sears is survived by his loving wife, of 28 years, Barbara Manwaring Sears, devoted children Edward Sears of Montville, Nancy Hoey of Venice, FL, Harry Sears of West Haven, Leslie Sears of Northfield, Ohio, Frederick Sears of Milford, step-children Donald Galligan and Donna Sanders both of Myrtle Beach, SC, Debbie Guthrie of Sitka, AK, Peter Galligan of Castle Rock, CO, sisters Louise Woodbury and Laura McDonald both of Chelmsford, MA, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, numerous cousin, nieces and nephews. Calling hours are Friday, March 9, 2007, from 5 to 8pm at the Smith Funeral Home, 135 Broad St., Milford. A funeral service will follow the calling hours at 8pm at the funeral home. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to benefit the family to Atty. Thomas J. Young, 754 Savin Ave., West Haven, CT 06516.
