Giulio “Juil” Cortina, age 85, of West Haven and Trumbull, passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 in North Bridge Healthcare. He was born on October 23, 1930 in Ripi, Frosinone, Italy to the late Benedetto and Maria Faustine Cortina. Before retiring, he was a partner of Ann’s Newfield Bakery and the former owner Frances Pastry Shoppe of Hamden. He will be remembered for his dedication to his family, wonderful baking and love of gardening, animals and nature. Mr. Cortina is survived by his loving wife, of 63 years, Clara Nanni Cortina, devoted children Donna Smullen and her husband Steven of West Haven, Brenden Cortina and his wife Kim of Milford and Jeffrey Cortina of West Haven, grandchildren Bill, Kelli, Sean, Amy, Kristi, Jamie and Nicole, eight great grandchildren and sisters Mary Picarazzi of Trumbull and Frances McCarthy of Monroe. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by three brothers and five sisters. Calling hours are Monday, February 15, 2016 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at the Smith Funeral Home, 135 N Broad St., Milford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 16th at 11:00am in Our Lady of Victory, 600 Jones Hill Rd., West Haven. Interment will be private.
