Gordon Thomas Obituary

Gordon E. Thomas, age 84, of Guilford, formally of Milford, died on Friday, October 12, 2007, in Connecticut Hospice. He was the loving husband of Lucille Funteral Thomas, devoted father of Ronald (Heidi) Thomas of Estes Park, CO and Pamela (Charles) Tiernan of Callaway, FL and step-father of Kathy-Leigh (Robert) Russo of Guilford. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was born in West Haven on October 20, 1922 to the late Harry and Bessie (Bronson) Thomas. Gordie graduated from West Haven High School in 1940 and proudly served for 3 years as an Air Crewman in the U. S. Marine Corps during WWII, attaining the rank of Corporal. He worked for SNET for almost 39 years. The position he enjoyed most at the company was cable splicer. He retired in 1985. Gordie loved music and singing and was a dedicated member for 34 years of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America (SPEBSQSA). He was also a member of the Milford Senior Center Gospel Choir. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife June (McBirney) Thomas, son Gordon Thomas, Jr., great granddaughter Katey and 11 brothers and sisters. Calling hours are Wednesday, October 17, 2007 from 3 to 6pm at the Smith and Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 Broad St., Milford. A memorial service will take place during the calling hours at 5pm. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in his name, to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405.
