Helen Kerecz

Helen Marie Kerecz 93, a retired secretary and credit specialist and seamstress, passed away on Thursday January 23, 2014. She had been a resident of Dobbs Ferry, NY since 1986 when she had moved from Milford, CT. Helen was born in Olyphant, PA on October 11, 1920 to Michael and Dora Sawayda Dyki. She attended schools in Pennsylvania, including Scranton-Lackawanna Business College. In 1945 Mrs. Kerecz moved to Connecticut and was employed by the General Electric Defense Company in Bridgeport and later Raybestos-Manhattan in Stratford. Helen married Charles Kerecz on November 23, 1947 at Holy Cross Church in Bridgeport. She moved to Milford in 1948. Her husband died on May 8, 1981. She was a member of the Creative Writing Group at the Milford Senior Center. Later at Dobbs Ferry she was a member of the Dobbs Ferry Senior Citizens, Sacred Heart Community Group and the Women’s Club of Dobbs Ferry. She always enjoyed her writing and gardening. She is survived by two sons, Dr. John C. Kerecz of Dobbs Ferry and Charles Allan Kerecz of New York City; a sister Kay Lee Blomberg of Newtown, a brother William J. Dyki of Woodbridge, three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home 203-874-2588 is handling final arrangements on Tuesday January 28, 2014 with a wake from 9:00am to 10:00am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s Church at 10:30 am. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Victoria Home, 25 North Malcolm St. Ossining, NY 10562.
