Helen Jenkins

Helen Jones Jenkins, age 96, of Monroe formerly of Ansonia, passed away on Monday, February 15, 2016 at Danbury Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas W. Jenkins and the mother of the late Della A. Hubbard of Ansonia. Helen was born in Baxley, Georgia on May 19, 1919 to the late Oscar A. Jones and Josephine Eichele Jones. Helen moved to Milford and attended Walnut Beach School and graduated from Milford High School Class of 1937 and attended the New Haven School of Hairdressing. Before retiring, she was employed by Remington Arms and Burndy Engineering Co. for fifteen years. Helen was an avid gardener and loved to read. She also loved the outdoors including camping on her own island on Tupper Lake, NY. Helen was a long time member of the First Congregational Church of Ansonia and also belonged to the Milford Elks and Emblem Club. She is survived by her loving daughter Earla A. Montani, two stepsons Thomas and his wife Hilary and Richard Jenkins and his wife Elizabeth, son-in-laws James Jenkins of Monroe and James Hubbard of Ansonia, grandsons, James and his wife Anna Hubbard, Martin and his wife Barbara Hubbard, Dennis and his wife Linda Hubbard, Kelly and his wife Linda Hubbard, Terence and his wife Laura Hubbard, Jonathan and his wife Cindy Hubbard, nieces Susan Hoynack, Pamela Marchal and Barbara Andriso, eleven great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Helen was predeceased by her great grandson Kelly Hubbard, Jr. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, February 20th from 1-3pm at the Smith Funeral Home, 135 N. Broad St. Milford. A Prayer Service will be held at 3pm during the visitation. Interment will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the Retinitis Pigmentosa Foundation by calling (800) 683-5555 or the Make A Wish Foundation by calling (203) 261-9044.
