Helen Curtis Griffing Ripley, age 86, of Milford, widow of the late E. Bradford Ripley,
Jr., passed away on February 18, 2011 at CT Hospice in Branford. She was born on
February 8, 1925 in New Haven, CT to the late Ebenezer Chauncey and Katharine
Curtis Griffing. A life long Milford resident, she graduated from Milford High School
and Vassar College. Helen worked as a numismatist, medical secretary and magazine
editor. An active member of the community, she was a Scout Master for Senior Girl
Scouts, a volunteer at the American Red Cross – Milford Chapter for over 30 years,
and the Secretary of Indian River Grange #73 for 25 years. She is survived by her sons,
Bryan C. Ripley and his wife Melanie of Morrisville, VT, and John B. Ripley of Milford,
brother Stuart L. Griffing, step-daughter Janet R. Cooper, three grandchildren Brad J. Ripley
and his wife Stephanie, Christin A. Ripley, Jessica C. Ripley and their mother Karen Lamothe,
great grandson Jacob B. Ripley, niece, nephew, great nieces and great nephews. Besides
her parents and husband, she is predeceased by a step-daughter Barbara Dowling. Calling
hours are Saturday February 26, 2011 from 12-2:00PM at the Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home,
135 N. Broad St. Milford. Internment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions
may be made in her name to the Dr. Vincent Batiancila Fund, C/O Milford Hospital,
300 Seaside Ave., Milford, CT 06460.
