James Coleman

James W. Coleman, age 85, of Milford passed away in his home on Saturday, January 02, 2010. He was born on July 5, 1924 to the late William J. and Gertrude Lenahan Coleman in Bridgeport. He proudly served in the US Navy during WWII. He was employed as a civil engineer/surveyor for Leverty & Hurley then operated Coleman Surveyors before retiring. An active member of the community, he was a member of Post 196 American Legion, a former Constable of Woodmont over ten years, St. Agnes Parish and After Mass “Pop’s Club”. Mr. Coleman is survived by his devoted children Kimberly Coleman and Meghan Coleman, both of Milford, Melissa Coleman-Grina and husband Paul of Newnan, GA, Patrick Coleman and Brian Coleman and his wife Regina Hope Coleman, all of Milford, brother William Coleman of Southport, grandchildren Philip Coleman Waisonovitz of Milford, Matt Tytla and Jean Tytla both of Waterford, son-in-law Lawrence Tytla of Waterford and granddaughter Killian Grina of Newnan, GA. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his wife Jean Skane Colemen, sons James F. Coleman and Christopher R. Coleman, daughter Kathleen Coleman Tytla, brother Robert Coleman and sisters Beatrice Mulrehan, Maureen Murphy and Marilyn Coleman. Calling hours are from 4 to 8pm at the Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 Broad St., Milford on Monday, January 4, 2010. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 5th, at 11am in St. Agnes Church, 400 Merwin Ave., Milford. Interment will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Stratford. Donations may be made in his name to support our Troops overseas through the American Legion Post 196, 25 Merwin Ave., Milford, CT 06460.
