Joan Cappella Milford, Connecticut Obituary

Joan Cappella

Joan Grant Cappella, 80, of Milford (West Haven native), took her flight to heaven Saturday May 17, 2014 in Milford Hospital during stroke recovery. She was beloved wife to the late Andrew B. Cappella. A devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother, she was formerly active in the Milford Welcome Wagon and West Haven Evangelical Free Church. She loved to cook, sew, and care for us, instilling her sense of hope and faith in God. Her special gifts evident to all whose lives were blessed to be graced by her warmth and care, she gave us a sense of beauty, identity, creativity, and spirit, spurring us on, with her trademark tenacity, to give our unique gifts to the world with the same boundless, unconditional love for which she was known. Joan is survived by daughter-in-law Debra Cappella, her devoted children Ronald (Elizabeth) Cappella of Lowell, MA., Alan (Wendy) Cappella of Chestertown, N.Y., Kenneth (Brita) Cappella of Santa Barbara, CA., Christopher Cappella of Largo, FL., and Sharon Rose Cappella of West Haven, two brothers Donald Brian (Nancy) Grant of Fairfield, Douglas Neal (Cathy) Grant and 11 grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, Evelyn and William Grant, she was predeceased by a son Laurence (Debra) Cappella, daughter-in-law Melissa Cappella, and brother Duncan Grant. A Family Prayer Service will be held Saturday May 24th at 9:00am in the Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 N. Broad St., Milford. Friends may call Friday from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Donations may be made to West Haven Evangelical Free Church, 255 Jones Hill Rd, West Haven, CT 06516.
