John Knapp

John “Jack” Knapp, 83, passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Milford Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was a lifelong resident of Milford, graduating from MHS in 1951. After serving in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict, he completed his carpenter certification from Chicago Technical College. He founded and co-owned Blaho & Knapp Builders, Inc. which flourished for many years in the Milford-Orange area. Jack was an avid sports fan and would always be watching “the game” no matter the sport. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Tinto Council 47 and Milford Elks No. 1589. He served on the Milford Sewer Commission for 20 years. Mr. Knapp is survived by his wife of 53 years, Maria Barbieri Knapp, sons Michael (Allison), James (Debbie), daughter Catherine (Dan) DelVecchio, beloved grandchildren Caroline, Stefanie, and Charlotte DelVecchio and Kyle Knapp. He also Leaves behind many other loving relatives. In addition to his late parents Howard F. and Marie L. Hennessey Knapp, Jack is predeceased by his son John H. Knapp and brother Howard Knapp. Friends may attend calling hours on Sunday, October 23, 2016 from 4 pm to 8 pm at the Smith Funeral Home, 135 N. Broad Street, Milford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 24, 2016 at 10:30 am at Christ the Redeemer Church, 325 Oronoque Road, Milford. Interment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Milford Hospital or Christ the Redeemer in Jack’s name.
