John Poole

Lt. Colonel John (Jack) F. Poole, age 92, a life long Milford resident, passed away on Friday, August 28, 2009 in Milford Health Care. He was born on December 19, 1916 to the late Benjamin F. and Emily Ovenden Poole. Jack was a graduate of SCSU, receiving a degree in marketing. He proudly served active duty in W.W.II and reserve for over 20 years in the US Army, attaining the rank of Lt. Colonel. Before retiring, he was employed in the marketing department of SNET. An active member of the community, he was a volunteer for the Milford Police Dept., the American Red Cross and the Boy Scouts of America. He was also talented in vintage clock repair. Mr. Poole is survived by his loving wife Clara Barrey Poole, devoted children Kathi Poole Maisano of Ansonia, Richard Poole of Sandwich, MA, Steven Poole of Dumfries, VA and Robert Poole of Alpharetta, GA, dedicated stepson Hugh Smith of Milford, 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he is predeceased a brother Benjamin G. Poole, stepsons Dwight Smith and Barrey Smith and first wife Janice Bowne Poole. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday October 9, 2009 at 12: Noon at the Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 N. Broad St., Milford. Friends may call prior to the service from 11:00 am. Interment will follow in Kings Highway Cemetery will full military honors. Donations may be made in his name to the American Red Cross, 1 Plymouth Place, Milford, CT 06460 or the Boy Scouts of America, P.O. Box 32, Milford, CT 06460.
