Dr. Joseph O. Cogguillo, Jr., a lifelong resident of Milford, passed away Thursday August 2, 2007. He was born in Bridgeport on July 9, 1932 to the late Joseph O. Cogguillo, Sr. and Dorothy Freeland Cogguillo. Joe was best known for his sharp mind and inexhaustible memory. He attended Milford High School, Providence College and the University of Connecticut, where he graduated Summa Cum Laude in 1954. Later, he graduated from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University and Tufts Dental School, where he graduated as a Doctor of Dental Medicine in 1960. He then served as a Naval Officer aboard the U.S.S. Yosemite. Joe was active in the community, having been a member of many civic organizations, and generously volunteered his time. He leaves his wife of 48 years, Jean. His children include Joe III (Shelly) of Branford, Chris (Jorie) of Milford, and Craig of Stratford. His grandchildren include Will, Jacob, Megan, Grace, Isaac and Leah. Joe was predeceased by his grandchildren Oliver and Lilla. Joe will be remembered for his great love of life and his family, and especially his passion for UCONN basketball. We love him and miss him. Calling hours are Tuesday, August 7, 2007, from 4 to 8pm at the Smith Funeral Home, 135 Broad St., Milford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 8th at 9am at St. Mary's Church. Interment will take place in Bethel, ME.
