Joseph Doehrer

Joseph Andrew Doehrer, age 53, formerly of Milford, passed away on June 6, 2012 in Somers, CT. He was born on August 10, 1958 in Milford to the late Donald and Joan O’Neill Doehrer. A talented musician, (known as Red Doerr), an Eucharistic minister, a genuine “Blues Man”, he was instrumental in the further development of the Hospice program at McDougall, where he wrote and performed a song for the Founder of Hospice. Along with teaching music, he was an avid reader and writer who earned three Associate degrees. He also served as President of the Toastmasters of New England. He took part in a HBO documentary, while in Lewisburg, PA titled “Life in the Big House”. Mr. Doehrer is survived by devoted siblings Donald Doehrer, Donald “Woogie” Doehrer III, Nancy Doehrer all of Maine, Donna Doehrer (Jules) both of Milford, Christi Filanowski (Robert) and Carol Swinnen all of Maine, loving nieces and nephews Jolan, Katy, Johnny, Rory, Jason, Jodi, Janelle, Jules, Maryann, Carly, Ashley, Tiffany, Austin, Madison, Skylyn, Dallas and Jake and thirteen great nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his dedicated brother Jeffrey Doehrer. Jeffrey passed away on November 2, 2008. He was a loving person who is survived by his wife Shawna and daughters Ashley and Tiffany. He loved traveling, animals and was a golden glove boxer. Calling hours are Tuesday, June 12, 2012 from 9 to 11am at the Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 Broad St., Milford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated following the calling hours at 11:30am in St. Agnes Church, 400 Merwin Ave. Milford, Interment will take place after the Mass in Kings Highway Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to help the family with expenses.
