Joseph Francis Filakovsky, age 92, died on Thursday, February 4, 2010, in Milford Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Rose Malafronte Filakovsky. Mr. Filakovsky was born on May 27, 1917 in Bridgeport to the late Michael and Anna Paztor Filakovsky. He was a proud Veteran of WWII serving in the USMC 5th Division in the Pacific Theater of Operation and was a survivor of the Battle of Iwo Jima and continued to serve in the Korean Conflict. Joseph worked as a machinist for 50 years with American Chain & Cable and retired in 1983. He was a member of the United Steelworkers of America and a Parishioner of St. Ann’s Church Devon. Joseph is survived by his devoted children Joseph, Barbara Ann and Richard Filakovsky all of Milford and Rose Vandervelden of Sunrise, FL. Besides his wife and parents, he is predeceased by a brother Michael Filakovsky and sister Helen Rainey. Calling hours are Monday, February 8, 2010 from 9 to 11am at the Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 Broad St., Milford. A funeral service will follow at 11am at the funeral home.
