Leroy Milewski Obituary

Leroy A. Milewski entered into eternal rest on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at the age of 97 with his family at his side. Leroy was born on March 3, 1918, the son of Josephine and Walter Milewski. Leroy was a lifelong resident of Milford. He was a linotype operator for Wilson H. Lee in Orange for many years before moving to the New Haven Register, where he worked until his retirement. Leroy was an amateur radio operator with the call letters W1VLS. He was an avid fisherman and boat enthusiast and was a life time member of the East End Yacht Club in Bridgeport. At age 23, Leroy earned his pilots’ license and owned his own small airplane for many years. He ran an excavating business in the 1950s and dug the basements for many homes built in Milford at that time. Leroy also owned and ran a gas station off of the Merritt Parkway in Milford during the 1950s. Leroy loved to garden and looked forward to planting his tomatoes each summer. Leroy is survived by his loving children Arlene Willis, Lee Milewski and wife Sandra, Tom Milewski and his wife Irene, and Joyce Charney, all residing in Milford. Leroy also has several grandchildren, Ward “Rocky” Willis and his fiancée Kelly Miller, Paul Willis and his wife Rosanna, Michael Milewski and his wife Sarah, Tina Champagne and her husband Daniel, Jennifer Charney, Jared Milewski and Leah Milewski, as well as great grandchildren Emilie Milewski and Isabella Willis, as well as several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his treasured cat Shadow. He was predeceased by his brother Milton Milewski and sister Regina Adams. CQ, CQ, CQ, this is W1VLS signing off. Calling hours are Thursday, February 11, 2016 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the Smith Funeral Home, 135 N Broad St, Milford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 12th at St. Mary’s Church, 70 Gulf St., Milford at 10:30am. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
