Margaret Somers

Margaret Bailey Somers passed away on December 28, 2010, at the age of 83. She was born in New Haven and grew up in the Fair Haven section. She graduated from St. Francis School, Hillhouse High School and New Haven State Teachers College (now S.C.S.U). She taught in Hartford and Stratford before spending the majority of her career in Milford at Meadowside School. Margaret was a member of St. Mary’s Church, where she produced a variety of shows with the CYO. She spent many seasons at the New London Barn Players Summer Stock Theater in New London, New Hampshire. She was on the Board of Directors of the Milford/Orange YMCA, a volunteer at Milford Hospital and a longtime member of the Milford Yacht Club. Margaret was predeceased by her husband of 58 yrs., Richard. She leaves her loving daughter, Deborah Somers. She was also predeceased by her father Patrick Joseph Bailey, her mother, Margaret Hyland Bailey. She also leaves her sister, Eileen Montesi, brother and sister-in-law John and Maureen Bailey and sister-in-law Claudia “Pat” Bailey. In addition she leaves nephews/nieces Michael Bailey, Robert Bailey, Laura Bailey Hughes, Peter Bailey, Timothy Bailey, Mary Bailey Albert, Joseph Montesi and Kevin Bailey. She will never be forgotten by her special students, Janice Symanski-Tondora, Robyn Swan and Renee Mercaldo and a host of loving friends. She will be missed by her cherished cats Devin and Foster. We would like to thank the Milford Hospital ICU and Dr. Ilene Rosenberg for their care and compassion. Donations may be made to St. Francis School, 423 Ferry St., New Haven, CT 06513. Services will be in the spring.
