Marlene Illyn

Marlene Iris Shock Illyn, of Milford, passed away on Monday, September 13, 2010. She was born on April 22, 1923 at Apple Farm, Calhoun County, W. VA. to the late Robert McDonald and Hilda Gherke Shock. She moved to Connecticut in 1942 where she was employed as a Quality Control Specialist until her retirement. An avid gardener, she will be remembered by her family, friends and neighbors as the “Flower Lady”. Though a country girl at heart, she enjoyed preparing international recipes and hosting multi course dinners to the delight of her guests. Mrs. Illyn is survived by her daughters Marlene “Punky” Illyn and Pamela Illyn and her husband Matthew Popielarski all of Milford, grandson Alexander Illyn of Charles Town, W. VA, siblings Darrell and Ruby Shock of Calhoun County, W. VA, Reta Stewart of St. Petersburg, FL and Grace Meincke of Daytona, FL and daughter-in-law Sharon Carrigan of Charles Town, W. VA. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, of 60 years, Anatole “Andy” Illyn, son Gregory Illyn, siblings Denzil Shock, Dennis Shock, Lora Hathaway, Edith Paquet and Arlena Jones. Calling hours are Friday, September 17, 2010 from 3 to 7pm at the Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 Broad St., Milford. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 18th at 9am in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Kings Highway Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a remembrance may be made in her name to the Calvary Alliance Church, 273 Orange Ave., Milford, CT 06460.
