Megan O’Connell-Albright Obituary

Megan O'Connell Albright, wife of Jeffrey Albright, passed away peacefully at her home in Milford, CT, on July 30th, 2016 after a 3 year battle with cancer. Megan was 51 at the time of her passing. Megan, born in Bridgeport, CT, on April 26, 1965, was the youngest of 3 daughters. Her parents, Thomas and Barbara O'Connell, currently live in Stratford, CT. Though Megan has lived in Milford since 1996, she was proud to call herself a native of Bridgeport, CT. Megan's upbringing and many jobs in the early part of her career had her very involved with the city. As a child, Megan attended St Augustine School in Bridgeport. Megan graduated from Notre Dame Catholic High School, Fairfield, with the class of 1983. She completed her education at Southern Connecticut State University, followed by the Connecticut School of Broadcasting. Megan's radio career began at WMMM, Westport, CT. She later moved on to a very successful and exciting career in radio at WICC 600AM, and WEBE 108FM. It was this career at WICC and WEBE 108, whose offices and broadcast studios were in Bridgeport, that cemented Megan's relationship with her local community. Megan was a field reporter, and on air news anchor for WICC. Over her years in radio, Megan had the pleasure of interviewing many notable and renowned celebrities, sports figures and world leaders. She also ran a talk show on Sunday evenings. Megan then worked as a disc jockey, for WEBE 108FM. Some of you may have listened to her as "Kelly Monroe", Megan's on air name for several years. Megan eventually completed her career in radio as promotions director for WICC and WEBE108. Megan's position as promotions director for the radio stations kept her involved locally, with large annual events such as the WICC 600 "Greatest Bluefish Tournament on Earth ", and the Bridgeport St Patrick's Day Parade. During the St Patrick's Day parade, Megan would drive a mustang convertible for the radio station. With the on air personalities along for the ride, Megan would find her parents in the crowd, her father a retired Bridgeport firefighter, all while enjoying her deep Irish heritage. While these events were work related, Megan, on her own time, always gave back to her community. Megan instilled in her children and those around her a civic responsibility to help those who are less fortunate. She was deeply involved with many local charitable programs that are still thriving today thanks to her contributions. Passion for her community was also evident in Megan's volunteer efforts for the Bridgeport Barnum Festival, a month long, annual celebration of Bridgeport's history, that culminates with a large parade and July 4th fireworks display. Megan devoted countless hours to fundraising efforts, and preparation, even designing and riding on floats in the massive parade. It was during these same years, that Megan married her husband, Jeffrey Albright. Megan and Jeffrey were married on October 23, 1993, enjoying nearly 23 years together at the time of her passing. Near the end of her time in radio, it was time to think about a family, so Megan then began a career in real estate to provide the flexible hours she desired for raising a family. Megan worked for The Kasey Group at William Raveis, until the time of her illness. All of these career and community achievements pale, however, in comparison to Megan's family. Family was everything for Megan. Family came first. Megan was the proud mother of three beautiful children, Alec, 18, David, 15, and a daughter Erin, 13. As an extremely passionate, caring, and nurturing mother, this family was Megan's ultimate achievement. Megan knew better than anyone, that we cannot put a value on time together, so she wasted none. Megan enjoyed every one of these family years together, whether it was summers at the beach, traveling afar, or simply at home. (Snow days were Megan's favorite: an excuse to do nothing . . . together) Outside of her number one passion, raising a family, Megan also enjoyed travel, the martial arts(she was an accomplished 3rd degree black belt), pets (never without a dog, particularly Airedales), and Bruce Springsteen ! Finally, Megan's sense of humor and positive outlook, may be what she is best remembered for. Her quick wit and fun loving approach to daily life made her an infectious person to be around. Megan's life had a significant impact on many. She will be missed more than words could ever express. Survivors include her husband Jeffrey, of Milford, three children, Alec, David, and Erin, her parents Thomas and Barbara O'Connell, of Stratford, sister Maeve O'Connell Brasa and husband Ken Brasa, of East Hartford, sister Kerry O'Connell Quinn, of Stratford, Rick Albright and wife Michelle Coine Albright, along with many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. Calling hours are Thursday August 4th, from 4:00 to 8:00pm, at the Smith Funeral Home, 135 North Broad Street, Milford, CT. A Funeral Mass to celebrate Megan's life will be at St Mary Church, Friday August 5th at 10:00am. Meet directly at church. Interment will follow in Milford Cemetery.
