Merryl Rogan

Merryl Clarissa Rogan age 99 of Milford, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2014, in Milford Hospital. A lifelong Milford resident, she was born on February 5, 1915, to the late Clarence Whiting and Emma (Barnett Fowler) Tibbals. Merryl was a member of two of the founding families who settled in Milford; the Tibbals and Fowlers who owned and operated the mills including the last one in town. They were one of the first families to receive property to establish the mill. Before retiring, she was employed by U. S. Motors in the accounts payable department. She played sax in the WPA Band and various groups along with singing four part harmony while visiting various convalescent homes. An active member of the community, she was a member of the Ahrens Program at the Milford Senior Center, Milford Senior Gospel Choir and Milford Volunteer Fireman’s Women’s Auxiliary. Her brother-in-law Jimmy Stewart had served as Fire Chief for the Milford Fire Department. Mrs. Rogan is survived by her devoted son Gerald W. Rogan of Milford and many nieces and nephews, including Wayne and Florence Tibbals of Milford and Thomas and Suzanne Tibbals of Derby. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by her loving husband William F. Rogan, who also served as a Milford volunteer fireman. Calling hours are Friday May 2 at 12 noon to 1pm at the First United Church of Christ Congregational, Plymouth Building, 18 W. Main St., Milford with a funeral service at 1pm. Interment will follow in Milford Cemetery. Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 Broad St., Milford is handling the arrangements. Donations may be made in her name to the Ahrens Program, Milford Senior Center, Jepson Drive, Milford, CT 06460.
