Michael Wayne Bettencourt, age 75, of Woodbridge passed away at home on July 15, 2009. He was born on January 9, 1934 in Mt. Vernon, NY to the late Michael and Alice Bettencourt. He graduated from Bullard-Havens Technical School in Bridgeport in 1953 and attended the University of Bridgeport. He proudly served in the US Army from 1954 to 1955 and again in 1961 to 1962. He was very gifted mechanically and spent his career in field service engineering. Among his favorite activities were spending time with his family, reading, talking about social issues, and riding his motorcycle. Mr. Bettencourt is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Beverly Treat Bettencourt, daughter Susan Cay and her husband Andrew of Spofford, NH, son Bryan Treat Bettencourt and his wife Tricia of Cheshire, grandchildren Edith and Andrew Cay and Dylan and Alexa Bettencourt and brother Ronald Bettencourt of Derby. In addition, he leaves behind many dear and caring friends. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by a brother Richard Bettencourt. Michael will be remembered as an invaluable friend and neighbor, always willing to lend a hand. A Memorial service will be held Saturday August 8th 2009 at 10:30 am at the Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 Broad St., Milford.
