Deacon Paul D. Smith, Sr. was honored by the usher board on October 15, 1994. This profile was written by Paul. Paul is not only an Usher, but he is also one of our fine Deacons, and a member of the Pastor’s Aide Club. Paul was born in Freeport, Long Island, NY on March 7, 1926 to the parents of (Francisco Tavaris Smeido) Frank Thomas Smith who came to this country in 1922 and met his mother Marie Alvera Mills, born in British West Indies. From this marriage, nine boys and two girls were born. Paul accepted Christ into his life at an early age. Paul tells us that he has been married and of this union he has six children: Walter Joseph, Kathleen Ann, Paul D., Jr, Aaron Michael, Belinda Theresa and Roger Michael. He also has three foster children: Caroline, Keith and Corlis; thirty three grandchildren, twenty two great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren. Paul is a retired truck driver from McLean Trucking Company. He is presently employed by Baker-Isaac Funeral Services, formerly known for many years as M. McDonald Isaac and Daughter Funeral Services. His hobbies are hunting, reading and music. His favorite Scripture is Psalms 69:34 “let the Heaven and Earth praise Him, the seas, and everything that moveth therein.” Deacon Paul D. Smith, Sr. was an active member of Messiah Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Reuben Williams. Paul enlisted in the US Army and was honorably discharged as a Private 1st class. He also was an active and supportive lifetime member of NAACP. Visitation is on Friday, August 4, 2017 from 9am to 10am in the Messiah Baptist Church, 210 Congress St., Bridgeport with a funeral service at 10am. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery. Smith Funeral Home, 135 Broad St., Milford is handling the arrangements.
