Ruth Bertilson

Ruth E. Bertilson, age 91, of Milford, passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2017 in Milford Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 14, 1925 in Jamaica Plains, NY to the late Frederick and Elizabeth Krull Miller and grew up in Bridgeport, CT. She attended the Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing. During WWII, she joined the Nurse Cadet Corps, ready to serve but never called because the war ended. She married the late Oscar “Bert” Bertilson in 1946. Ruth worked at Milford Hospital as a registered nurse until retirement. She enjoyed windowsill gardening and singing in the Trinity Lutheran Church Choir and the Milford Senior Center Gospel Choir. She is survived by her seven children: Jim Bertilson (Carol), Jane Griswold (Bill), Joan Antone (David), Joyce Adams (Robert), Judy Albert (David), Jean Pillo (John), Jill Whitney (Brad), their nine grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and loving husband, she is predeceased by her brother Wilfred and sister Marion. At her request, the funeral service will be private with no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Milford Senior Center Gospel Choir Music Fund. Smith Funeral Home, 135 Broad St., Milford is handling the arrangements.
