Walter H. Lewandowski, of Milford, died suddenly on April 27, 2011 at the age of 84. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Katherine, his two children, Kathleen LaVorgna of Wilton and Kevin Lewandowski of Milford, and his six grandchildren. He is predeceased by his brother Paul. Burial was in Milford’s St. Mary’s Cemetery at a private family service. Walter was born in New York on March 20, 1927, the son of Otto Lewandowski and Kathe Fretz. After leaving the Navy at the end of WWII, he graduated from Hofstra College. In 1950 Walter married Katherine Haile and the couple settled in Levittown, NY. Ten years later, they and their two children moved to Milford where he was a corporate accountant for the Schick Razor Company. Walter later worked for the Armstrong Rubber Company in West Haven, then the Perelli Tire Company in New Haven. He was a volunteer firefighter in NY, and mentored young business people in the “Junior Achievement” program in New Haven. Since retirement at the age of 62, he had been devoted to his wife Katherine, enjoying walks with her along the beach in West Haven, gardening, home projects, and time with his grandchildren. Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 Broad St., Milford was in charge of arrangements.
