William J. "Red" Sanderson, age 80, of Bridgeport, beloved husband of Minnie Rua Sanderson of 55 years, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at his home, surrounded by his family. Bill was born on November 21, 1932 in Hartford, to the late James and Sarah (Koenig) Sanderson. He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Bill worked many years as a plumber and was a member of Local Union 777 Plumbers & Pipefitters. He was a life member of VFW Post 7788 in Devon and American Legion Post 196 Milford. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his loving daughters Mary Imperioli and her husband Flavio of Sandy Hook, CT, Paula Sefcik and her husband Dan of Milford, his cherished grandchildren Dr. Matthew Imperioli and his wife Christina, Michele Imperioli and Lauren Imperioli, Sarah Sefcik Garaizar and her husband Christopher, Daniel Sefcik Jr. and Jessica Sefcik. He is also survived by his sisters Anna Parsons, Dorothy Avery, sister-in-law Josephine Sanderson and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother James. Calling hours are Sunday June 9, 2013 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 N. Broad St., Milford. A funeral home prayer service will be held Monday at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in St. Michaels Cemetery Stratford with full Military Honors.
