Mrs. Adelia (Adele F. (Braga) McLay Hairstylist, retired from Center Stage Hair Care. Naugatuck, CT Adelia F. (Braga) McLay of Naugatuck, died on November 25, 2020 while doing what she loved, working in her garden. She was the wife of John Richard McLay. Mrs. McLay was born July 17, 1949 in Arcosso, Vila Real, Portugal. She was the daughter of the late Luis S. Santos Braga and Alice Ricardo Braga, of Bristol, CT. She was a graduate of M. Kavula Institute of Hair Design of Waterbury. A graduate of Naugatuck High School, Department of Adult Continuing Education, graduating May 19, 1994. She also attended Naugatuck Valley Community College. Adelia worked as a hairstylist for nearly 47 years for several salon owners in Waterbury, CT. She worked as a hairstylist and Assistant Manager at: Jose’s House of Charm, as a Hairstylist at Ed’s Unisex Hairstyling Center, Worth’s Smiling Service, and Chez Dior Hairstyling Salon. After 47 years of public service, she retired from Center Stage Hair Care on November 1, 2014. She was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, of the Southbury Ward, where she led a dedicated life of service and love to her family, friends and church. In this capacity, she held various callings as an instructor and leader in various auxiliaries of the church which she considered a labor of love. She also had the honor of serving in the Hartford Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for several years donating her time in the service of the Lord. Her favorite pass times were genealogy, working in her flower garden, painting, and spending quality time with her family. Adelia will long be remembered for her virtues of strength, integrity, compassion, generosity, and great faith in spiritual intuition. Besides her husband John R. McLay, she is survived by one daughter, Melissa Amaral Miller and her only biological grandchild, Justin Alexander Greguoli of Fairborn, OH. She also leaves four sisters: Maria Goncalves of Oakville, CT., Anna Stanco, Maria Helena Braga, and Marcilia Wyrebek of Bristol, CT, 7 nephews, 5 Great-nephews, and 2 Great-nieces. Services will be held at the convenience of the family and arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck.
