Albert Gedraitis

Bethany - Mr. Albert E. Gedraitis, age 77, of 482 Bethmour Road, died Monday January 25,2010 at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was the husband of Julia (Longobardi) Gedraitis. Mr. Gedraitis was born in Waterbury on August 17,1932 a son of the late Anthony and Mary (Arnold) Gedraitis. He was retired from New Haven Copper where he worked as a slitter for many years and also formerly worked at several steel mills. He was a communicant of St. Vincent Ferrer Church in Naugatuck. He enjoyed playing chess and gardening and classic movies and was the founder and a former president of the Waterbury Chess Club.He also loved animals and will be terribly missed by his cats Max and Sam and also by all of the birds in Bethany that he Faithfully fed for over 50 yrs. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served for five years during the Korean War. Besides his wife, Mr. Gedraitis is survived by a son John Gedraitis of Waterbury, two brothers: Anthony Gedraitis of Waterbury and Raymond Arnold of New York, an aunt: Helen Stockunas of Naugatuck and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held on Friday January 29,2010 at 10:15 a.m. from the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home 26 Waterbury Rd. Route 69 Prospect to St. Vincent Ferrer Church 1006 New Haven Rd. Naugatuck for a mass at 11 a.m. Burial with full military honors will be in St. James Cemetery in Naugatuck.
