Alice Terra

Alice “Candida” Terra, 93, of St. Petersburg, Florida died Friday, February 17, 2012 at Nurses Helping Hands, Pinellas Park, FL under the care of Suncoast Hospice. She was the wife of the late Laurentino J. Terra, Sr. Mrs. Terra was a long time resident of Naugatuck, Connecticut before she moved to St. Petersburg, Florida in 1983. Before her retirement she worked for T. F. Butterfield in Naugatuck. She belonged to the parish of St. Jude in St. Petersburg, Florida and was the last survivor of the six founders of the Portuguese-American Suncoast Association in St. Petersburg, Florida. Alice also served several years on the Board of Directors of Tyrone Villas Condo Association. She also was a past president and a founding member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Clube Uniao Portuguesa in Naugatuck, a member of the Senhoras do Rosario of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Waterbury, Connecticut and a member of the American Legion Post 17 Ladies Auxiliary in Naugatuck. Survivors include her daughter, Dolores M. Bouffard and her husband, Norman, of Seminole, Florida and her son, Laurentino J. Terra, Jr. and his wife, Catherine, of Annapolis, Maryland; six grandchildren, Julio P. Marques, Jr. and his wife, MaryEllen, of Naugatuck, Laurentino J. Terra III and his wife, Sandra, of Phoenix, Arizona, Tracy Terra and his wife, Tina, of Eldersburg, MD, Mary Alice Sullivan and her husband, Tom, of Naugatuck, Mark Terra and his wife, Judy, McKinney, TX, and Jeffrey Terra and his wife, Dena, of Millersville, Maryland; twelve great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren; her sister, Palmira Maneca of Naugatuck, and four brothers, Artur Pedreira of Stratford, CT, Joao Pedreira, Adriano Pedreira and Jose Pedreira of Portugal; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Antonio Pedreira. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 25 at 10:15 a.m. from Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home 82 Fairview Ave. Naugatuck to Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071Baldwin Street, Waterbury, Connecticut for a mass at 11 a.m.. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening, February 24 from 5:00 to 7:00pm. Interment will be at St. James Cemetery in Naugatuck.
