Anthony Salcito Naugatuck, Connecticut Obituary

Anthony Salcito

Naugatuck- Anthony “Tony” Salvatore Salcito, 78, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 30, 2017. Tony was born on December 25, 1938 in Waterbury, a son of the late Frank and Mary (Salcito) Salcito. After attending Leavenworth School, he went to work as a carpenter's apprentice, and later worked alongside his father, building homes. In 1961, Tony went to work for Anaconda American Brass, and worked there until 1991. Throughout his life, Tony took much pleasure in his outdoor activities of hunting, fishing, as well as enjoying time on a boat, whether it was on the ocean, lake, or a pond. He also loved gardening, and was very proud of his tomato plants, that would reach heights of seven feet tall, or more. He was the go to guy, for gardening advice. Tony had very fond memories of Biddeford, Maine, a place near and dear to his heart. He was thrilled to have taken a trip to Maine, in June of this year, with his daughter Shari, and her husband David. He was able to connect with old friends, and enjoy the scenic and peaceful surroundings, of a place he once called home. Tony enjoyed being involved in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and siblings. He had countless friends that he kept in touch with daily, and went out of his way to help them with whatever they needed. He was always there for them, whether it be driving them to appointments, or running errands with them, as well as picking items up at a store, and sharing one of his home cooked meals. Tony was a great listener, and offered advice based on his experiences. His generous spirit, caring ways, and witty sense of humor, will be missed by all that loved him. Tony leaves four children, Nina M. Barbera (Christopher Caserio), Shari Carda and her husband David, Lisa Stringer and her husband Jamie, and Anthony Salcito, and his wife Susan; his five grandchildren, Kathleen Healy and her husband Nick, Matthew Carda, Jacie Stringer, Jaiden Stringer, and Delilah Salcito; his brother Gene Salcito and his wife Nancy; and his brother in law Richard White. He also leaves several nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Tony was predeceased by his sister Mary (Salcito) White and his dear friends, Barbara Kendzierski, Betty Gillette, and Cece Delcourt. A celebration of Tony’s life will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 2:30pm at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck, CT. Family and friends may call on Saturday from 1:00 to 2:30pm.
