Arthur Dessureau Obituary

Naugatuck-Arthur "Art" E. Dessureau, 75 passed away on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 surrounded by his loving family after an extended illness. He was the husband of Gertrude (McGann) Dessureau. Arthur was born in Waterbury on October 17, 1934. He was the son of the late Blanche (Traver) Dessureau and Joseph Dessureau and also the late Arthur George. He worked for Uniroyal, served in the National Guards and was a Naugatuck Policeman for 20 years. Upon his retirement from the Police Department he started his own painting business, "A-Dee and Sons". Besides his wife of 54 years, he leaves behind five children, all of Naugatuck, Arthur E. Dessureau, Jr., William J. Dessureau, Katherine R. Daisey and her husband P.J., Garrett J. Dessureau and his companion Patty Northrop and James R. Dessureau and his wife Dawn. He also leaves seven grandchildren, Artie Dessureau, III, Erin Dessureau, Chris Dessureau, Eric Daisey, Keith Daisey, Rachel Daisey and James Dessureau, Jr. He also leaves a great-granddaughter Angelia Brouillet and the family dog, a sheltie, Buddy. He will also be missed by several cousins, nieces and nephews, many in-laws and many friends. Besides his parents he was predeceased by a daughter Pamela Sue Dessureau, a granddaughter, Ashley Daisey and a great-grandson A.J. Brouillet. Art had many hobbies including spending time with his family, rooting on his grandchildren at their sporting events, traveling to many wonderful places with his wife and friends including Hawaii, many times, Ireland and Alaska to name a few. He coached baseball and basketball for many years and formed the Naugatuck Grads of the Waterbury Twi-Met League. He was an avid NASCAR fan including Dale Earnhardt, Sr. and Jr., a St. Louis Cardinal and Green Bay Packer fan. He was a member of the Naugatuck Eagles Club and the Naugatuck Hall of Fame. The family would like to thank Dr. Kotash and the staff of the Leever Center and the fourth floor nurses at St. Mary's Hospital. Also the VNA/Hospice Team of Waterbury and Dr. Huebner and his staff. The kindness and care that they all showed made his illness bearable. The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Vincent Ferrer Church, 1008 New Haven Rd, Naugatuck. Friends and family are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery.
