Bertolina Caneira

Naugatuck- Bertolina (Cascais) Caneira, 99, of 257 Cherry Street, passed away on Sunday, March 7, 2010 at Highland Healthcare in Cheshire after a brief illness. She was the widow of John A. Caneira. Mrs. Caneira was born on July 4, 1910 in Murtosa, Portugal a daughter of the late Manuel and Maria (Caetano) Cascais. She was retired from T.F. Butterfield where she worked for many years. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church. She is survived by her son, John C. Caneira and his wife Teresa of Southington, one granddaughter, Laura Caneira of Southington and one grandson, William Caneira and his wife Jennifer of Mansfield, four great-grandchildren Alyssa, Sophia, William and Matthew. She was predeceased by one brother. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. from the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave, Naugatuck to Our Lady of Fatima Church, Baldwin Street, Waterbury for a mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home this evening from 6-8 p.m. Memorial Contributions may be made to: Ecumenical Food Bank, 75 Spring Street, Naugatuck, CT 06770.
