Naugatuck-Betty J. (Solie) Edmonds, 89 passed away peacefully on Friday, August 13, 2010 after a full and memorable life. She was a loving daughter, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. Betty was born August 28, 1920 to Henry and Anne Solie in Eau Claire, WI. After graduating high school at the age of 16 she attended St. Francis School of Nursing in LaCrosse, WI. She served as a Navy nurse during WWII and was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant JG. After her discharge, Betty moved to CT to marry Thomas F. Edmonds of Naugatuck on October 19, 1946 in Stratford, CT. They made their home in Naugatuck where Betty continued her nursing career and Tom worked as a Purchasing Agent for Uniroyal, Inc. Betty was widowed in October 1970 with three of her four children still living at home. Her nursing career included work at both local hospitals, private duty nurse and Director of Nurses at several local nursing homes. In 1975 she returned to college and received her Nursing Home Administrator's license and subsequently spent several years running several local nursing homes. She was known by hundreds of staff and residence as a kind and caring administrator. She was a communicant of St. Francis Church. Betty was predeceased by her husband Tom and brother, Eugene Solie. She is survived by two sons, Thomas Edmonds and his wife Claudette of Prospect, James Edmonds and his wife Barbara of Naugatuck, two daughters, Jane Thompson and her husband Scott of Saint Inigoes, MD and Lori Ramos of Naugatuck, one sister, Donna Nowak of Eau Claire, WI. Betty leaves seven grandchildren, Tommy, Kristie, Amy, Ryan, Megan, Kaitlyn and Timothy. Four great-grandchildren, Marteus, Marcus, Tyler and Conner as well as several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 16, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. at the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave, Naugatuck. Burial will be at the convenience of family.
