Betty Gillette

Naugatuck-Betty Jane (Jones) Gillette, wife of the late Sherwin “Cy” Gillette, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 5, 2017 after spending her last days enjoying the company of family. Betty was born on March 9, 1935 in Naugatuck, a daughter of the late Mark and Adeline (Beach) Jones. Betty was a lifelong resident of Naugatuck and was an avid gardener. She enjoyed planting gardens for herself and for her neighbors. Betty loved all that nature had to offer, and especially loved when the hummingbirds returned to her feeder each year around Mother’s Day. Betty most enjoyed spending time with family and her dear friend Anthony Salcito. Betty is survived by her two daughters, Sharon L. Letts, of Naugatuck; Marlene R. Kirkendall and husband Mark, of Wolcott; her five grandchildren, Amanda Tiscia and husband Ryan of Waterbury; Monica Hartis of Naugatuck; Kyle Hartis and wife Kristen, of Waterbury; Kayleigh Goldberg and husband Anthony, of Wolcott; Kelsey Kirkendall, of Wolcott; her four great-grandchildren, Jordan Pohorence, Gracie Pohorence, Lillian Hartis and Ryleigh Goldberg; her sister, Ruth Kovach; her brother, John “Beach” Jones; son-in-law, Keith Letts; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband of nearly 54 years, Betty was predeceased by her brothers, Mark, Richard “Dick”, Kenneth, Donald, and Edward “Dee” Jones; and her two nephews, David and Richard Jones. Betty’s family would like to thank the staff of Hartford HealthCare at Home and the staff at Waterbury Hospital on the 9th floor. At Betty’s request there will be no calling hours and burial will be at the convenience of the family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck. In lieu of flowers the family would like to request donations in Betty memory to, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
