Dorothy (Kelsey) Grish, 76, a 53 year resident of Prospect, passed away on November 19 at St. Mary’s Hospital with her family at her side. Born in Huntington Station, Long Island, NY, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Dorothy Kelsey. She continued her lab career in the West Haven Veterans’ Hospital after marrying. In the mid 1970s, she embarked onto a new chapter, pursuing a teaching degree at Southern Connecticut State University. She earned her elementary teaching diploma in 1976, and went on to complete her master’s degree, also from SCSU, in 1986. Dorothy taught for 23 years in Regional School District #16, retiring in 1999. Dorothy and her loving husband of 54 years, Daniel, spent their retirement years vacationing across the country. She had a lifelong passion of music, teaching organ to students in her early years. She was also a substitute organist for many years in many area churches until medical issues prevented her from continuing to play the organ. Dorothy was an avid follower of UConn sports with particular affection for the woman’s basketball team, always tuning into watch “the girls”. She was a longtime member of St John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waterbury, and more recently at Cheshire Lutheran Church. Dorothy is survived by: her husband Daniel; daughter Ann Carrington and her husband George of Ohio; son Daniel and his wife Patrice of Durham; grandchildren: Michael Carrington and his wife Carolyn and great-grandson, Ian all of Wolcott; Amanda Carrington of Prospect and Justin “Jay” Carrington of Ohio. A celebration of her life will be held at Cheshire Lutheran Church at 660 W. Main St, Cheshire on Monday, November 23,2009 at 10:30 a.m. Family and friends are asked to meet directly at the church at 10:15 a.m. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Friends may call at the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 26 Waterbury Rd, Rte. 69, Prospect on Sunday afternoon from 3-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to: Farmington Valley Symphony Orchestra, 222 Main St #273, Farmington, CT 06032.
