Mrs. Edith Saunders Worked for Uniroyal, Pratt & Whitney BRISTOL — Edith (Cain) Saunders, 83, formerly of Waterbury, passed away on June 20, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Saunders was born on Jan. 2, 1930, in Walterboro, S.C., a daughter of the late Benjamin Cain and Inez (Carter) Cain. She was a supervisor of the assembly line for Uniroyal and was sent to Bogota, South America to assist with the opening of a plant. Edith also was a machinist for Pratt & Whitney before her retirement. She was extremely active within her church and was a lifetime missionary. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Collins of Plainville, and her adoptive daughters, Diane Raimo of Waterbury and Kyle Carrillo of Plainville; and one brother, Leroy Cain of Albany, Ga. She will also be missed by her six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Jacelyn and Dennis Mitchell favored their aunt greatly. Edith also has a large extended family which includes her beloved pet dog, Ford. She was predeceased by one son, Charles Saunders, two sisters, and six brothers. A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Olive A.M.E. Zion Church, 82-100 Pearl St., Waterbury. Burial will be in New Pine Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Redeemer's A.M.E. Zion Church, 110 Whiting St., Plainville, CT 06062.
