Eleanor M. Scheiber Naugatuck borough retiree NAUGATUCK — Eleanor M. Scheiber, formerly of Naugatuck, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, Aug. 26, 2011, at Clare Bridge Senior Residence in Austintown, Ohio, at the age of 93. She was the widow of Robert E. Scheiber, who died in 1961 at the age of 45. Eleanor was born on July 28, 1918, in Waterbury, to Francis and Helen Morris O'Shea. She was a 1936 graduate of Naugatuck High School and a communicant of St. Francis Church, where she married her husband, Bob, on April 11, 1942. She loved being a homemaker and took great pride in keeping her house spotless. Following her husband's death in 1961, she was employed as a secretary at Naugatuck High School and later worked for the Naugatuck Welfare Department until her retirement. She also became a licensed real estate agent. Eleanor was an honorary member of the Naugatuck Women's Club with 58 years of membership. She also attended the Senior Center's Friendship Club, was a Red Hatter and a member of the St. Mary's Auxiliary. Eleanor always loved baseball and took great pride in watching her brother, Frank "Spec" Shea play with the New York Yankees. She enjoyed baking, playing bridge with her friends and most of all spending time with her four grandchildren in Ohio. She is survived by one daughter, Ellen Rooney and her husband, Dan, of Naugatuck; one son, Dr. Robert E. Scheiber Jr. and his wife, Karen, of Warren, Ohio; four grandchildren, Sarah Lee and her husband, Christopher, of Akron, Ohio, Robert Scheiber III, of Tampa, Fla., Mary Garcia Prats and her husband, Matthew, of Sugar Land, Texas, and James Scheiber of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and four great-grandchildren, Julia and Christopher Lee, Tyler Garcia-Prats and Robert Scheiber. She is also survived by one cousin, Mary Lou Holmes of Middlebury; a sister-in-law, Betty Scheiber of Tiffin, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Spec, who passed away on July 19, 2002. Eleanor's funeral will be held from the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck, on Wednesday, Aug. 31, at 10:15 a.m., to St. Francis of Assisi Church for a Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Frank "Spec" Shea Scholarship Fund at Naugatuck Valley Savings & Loan, c/o Barbara Woolfrey, 333 Church St., Naugatuck 06770; the Ecumenical Food Bank, P.O.
