Firmino Matos Winchester Firearms retiree NAUGATUCK - Mr. Firmino Matos, 78, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, at the Wolcott View Manor Health and Rehabilitation Center in Wolcott. He was the husband of Maria A. (Adelia) Matos. Mr. Matos was born in Paramos, Portugal, on Aug. 17, 1933, a son of the late Manuel and Gracinda (Fonseca) Matos. He was retired from the Winchester Firearms Company, where he worked for many years, and was a communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Waterbury. He was a member of the Portuguese Club of Naugatuck and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Besides his wife, Mr. Matos is survived by a son, Elisiario Matos and his wife, Lourdes, of Prospect; two sisters, Idalina Fonseca of Naugatuck, and Caridade Fonseca of Portugal; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Luis Antonio Matos. The funeral will be held 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, 2011, from the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave., Naugatuck, to Our Lady of Fatima Church, 2071 Baldwin St., Waterbury, for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society New England Division, 825 Brook St., I-91 Technology Center, Rocky Hill 06067-3045.
