Frances (Taylor) Carroll

Prospect, CT Frances (Taylor) Carroll, 96, the widow of Lenus W. Carroll, I, and a Prospect resident for almost 50 years, died peacefully on Sunday, October 9, 2016 in the VITAS Innovative Patient Care Unit at St. Mary’s Hospital surrounded by her loving family.<br>Frances was born on October 20, 1919 in Waterbury, CT, a daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Bissenden) Taylor and was also the granddaughter of the late John Bissenden of Dublin, Ireland. She was educated in Waterbury Schools and received her diploma from Wilby High School. Frances worked her whole career in Waterbury, beginning as a fabric cutter at the Brandivine Curtain Factory, then as an inspector at the Scovill Manufacturing Co. in the automatic screw machine department, until the beginning of World War II when she was transferred to the fuse assembly department, and finally working as a technician at St. Mary’s Hospital, where she retired after 23 years. She loved to sing, read, knit, crochet, quilt and garden and she enjoyed watching Jeopardy, doing jumbo puzzles daily and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a former Cub Scout Den Mother and was a parishioner of St. Anthony’s Church.<br>Frances is survived by her daughters, V. Eileen Carroll of Waterbury, Donna Brown and her husband John Brown of Wolcott, Vivien Carroll of N.C. and Kolleen Gillis and her husband Robert Gillis of Prospect; her sons, Lenus W. Carroll, II of Waterbury, Kenneth Carroll and his wife Beverly Carroll of Narvon, PA, Kent Carroll and his companion Patty Stemm of Prospect and Kendall Carroll and his wife Denise Carroll of Oakville; 27 grandchildren: Robert and Nicole Gillis, Mandi Gadue, Katie Brayton, Megan Carroll, Christopher and Jonathan Carroll, Jennifer and Shelly Carroll, Kristi Serrano and Keith and Evan Carroll, Jamie Cote, Stephen and Sean Carroll, Carol Savage , Darlene, Jeremy, Jeannette and Lenus W. Carroll III, Cheryl-Anne, Kelly and Brian Masi, Anthony Nastri, Jr., Summer Lambert, Autumn and Amber Budzyn. 31 great grandchildren, her daughter-in-law, Janice Carroll and several nieces and nephews and her beloved dog Molly. Mrs. Carroll was predeceased by 3 sons, Creig F. (Randy) Carroll, Keith W. Carroll and Kim J. Carroll, a grandson Joseph Cote and 2 brothers and 2 sisters. <br>A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at 10:00am at St. Anthony’s Church, 4 Union City Road, Prospect. Anyone attending the funeral is asked to please go directly to the Church. Burial will follow in Prospect Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00pm at the Buckmiller Thurston Mengacci Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Avenue, Naugatuck. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions in memory of her beloved son Keith, may be made to the Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center, 1075 Chase Parkway, Waterbury, CT 06708.
