Francis Gilroy

Wallingford-Francis M. Gilroy (Frank) age 92, entered eternal rest on January 20, 2010 at Masonic Healthcare Center, Wallingford, CT with his family at his side. He struggled valiantly with Alzheimer’s disease for 13 years. He was a delightful, kind and caring person and never failed to bring a smile to those around him. Born April 9, 1917 in Waterbury, CT, he was the son of the late Michael Gilroy and Ellen Dolan Gilroy. He was predeceased by his devoted wife Elizabeth (O'Brien) Gilroy. He was also predeceased by brothers Joseph & James, sisters Helen, Margaret, Peg & May. He leaves to cherish his memory, son Jerome and his wife Frances Gilroy of Birmingham, AL, daughters, Joan Kalil & Patricia Sikeritzky, both of Milford, CT, son Gary Gilroy of Newtown, CT. Grandchildren Michael and Sean Gilroy of Birmingham, AL, Erin Trammell of Warrior, AL. Meghan Nichols of Kansas City, MO, Michael Kalil of Nederland, CO, and Kevin Gilroy of Newtown, CT. He is also survived by nine great grandchildren and special friends, Althea and Sy Simons, and his caregivers at Masonic Healthcare Center. He proudly served his country and was a veteran of WWII. He served in the Armed Guard, U.S. Navy. He retired from Uniroyal where he was a Millworker. He was a member of the Elks Club and the V.F.W. Frank was an avid fisherman and won many salt water fishing trophies, the most memorable for a 63lb. 12 oz. striped bass caught from t he surf in Rhode Island. Friends are invited to a mass of Christian burial at St. Francis Church, 318 Church St, Naugatuck, CT. Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Military Burial will follow at St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. There are no calling hours and the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 82 Fairview Ave, Naugatuck is in charge of arrangements. The family is eternally grateful to the loving staff at Masonic Healthcare Center, Wooster 3 & the Masonic Hospice staff.
